Depression

Depression not only affects the victim, but everyone in this person’s life. Within the black community many suffer, but the outlet to confide in someone is limited. A lot of people struggle with this everyday not wanting to admit to the problem until it is too late. There are several signs a person is depressed. For example: lack of interest in things, always sleeping, lack of sleep, change of mood, and other things that are out of the ordinary. If you know someone who is suffering from depression please reach out to them. Don’t let a day pass without offering help to the victim or at least telling someone who can help. not only do i use this, but i also use giovanni’s that is actually on its way, i ordered it off amazon a few days ago, so it should be here monday! lol i also use olive oil (extra virgin). The products i use are: loreal ever sleek smoothing shampoo (make my hair really soft and softens out my new growth, it is also sulfate and silicione free!), argan oil conditioner by cream of nature, it deep conditions my hair and prevents breakage, ultra sheen moisture blend oil serum (contains tons of natural oils. and no petroleum or mineral oil in it which is bad for the hair); i used it to seal in moisture on my ends, ors smooth in hold pudding i use it on my edges and twist out, ors edge control to slick down loose hair on my edges and nape (alcohol free), and finally softsheen carson shea butter cream (i use it on my hair wen wet!) i forgot one thing though, my elasta qp setting foam (i will post the pic)!

I like fashion, plain in simple. As in individual I find it hard to follow trends every season, rather i only incorporate trendy pieces into my wardrobe. Most would describe my style as classic and simple. The reason I like classic pieces versus trendy ones is that they will forever be in style. The seasons pass by and you can always wear that staple blazer or pump you have in your closet, but trends come and go. Keeping up with fashion does not mean that you have to spend a fortune. Recently i was doing a google search for affordable jumpsuits and i stumbled upon this website: http://www.makemechic.com/c-85-ankle.aspx?section=-463- . I must say, i was thoroughly impressed with the clothes and shoes, also there were a large variation in sizes. Although i have not ordered anything yet, i am thinking about it soon and will let you guys know, i love the pictured boots!

“My Struggle, My Hair: My insecurity turned into a Blessing”

Excuse me for the messiness, but i am new to blogging. This is actually my first ever blog post and if you want to feel comfortable about listening to someone speak about spirituality and transitioning into natural hair, then you have come to the right place. Ironically, my decision to go natural was one that was in the making for quite sometime. For years I have struggled with accepting my hair, I remember people telling me I had nappy hair and needed a relaxer when i was in elementary school. Having people make those rude comments to me as a kid stuck with me until adulthood. Now i cringe at someone calling a person’s hair nappy, if someone outside of the black race can’t say “nappy, then no one should use the word (just like the other” n” word). Overtime, i developed more confidence and became the beautiful (inside and out) woman God intended for me to be. The first time I tried to go natural was disastrous. I tried to do it my sophomore year in college, but it turned into an epic fail. Resources and hair boards were not even something that I researched, because in 2007, there was no one that i knew who was natural who had a hair type similar to mine. Well, two months into my journey i noticed a tremendous amount of hair loss and breakage. Trying to go natural caused me even more damage and I did not think that i would ever make this decision again. Ha! I ate those words! The summer of this year I had faithfully became addicted to you-tube makeup tutorials. Watching these tutorials really improved my makeup skills and so much insight into the right products to use were given to me. Weeks passed by and every time I saw a tutorial I became more and more interested in makeup applications. One day, I clicked onto someone’s You-tube channel who brought up the topic of natural hair, as though they are natural themselves. The lady who I am referring to talked about her hair journey and what her goals were and the reasons as to why she made the decision to go natural. Instantly I became intrigued and attentively listened to her express ideas regarding natural hair and black women. After I watched the video, I looked at the state of my hair and realized that it was no longer pleasing to me. My 23rd birthday was three months away and I really wanted a change. This change in my mind, would be something that represented my and promoted my general health and that was the decision to go natural. Once I made this decision, I severed ties with the stylist i was going to (which by the way charged me $30 for a trim, yes insane!). Now I have been transitioning for almost 4 months and although I still have a long way to go and have yet to definitively come to the decision to dot the “BIG CHOP”, i am loving how thick and strong my hair is getting. I informed my family about my decision and got mixed reviews, my mother does not like my decision at all. She is an older lady, so in her day the standard of beauty was straight hair, but now that standard is changing. Black women no longer have to worry about not being considered for jobs based on natural hair (or else that’s a discrimination lawsuit!). Times are still hard for any woman of color, but seeing that it is acceptable to no longer have to punish oneself by relaxing is very humbling to me. Daily life presents us with choices and opportunities for change, so whatever change that may be it certainly can be frightening, but if it is positive remember you have to do what is best for you. The decision to go natural has also ironically, brought me closer to God and enhanced my spirituality. Lol, i know right! I just felt like as I am becoming who i am naturally it made my relationship with God stronger because i appreciate how he created me, thus forcing me to strip off the processed layers in which made me superficially beautiful; now turning the majority of my focus on ex halting him instead of society’s perception of how it is wrong to look the way he intended me to look. Who would have thought so much came from how one styled their hair, society’s perception of beauty, and one’s perception of self? In upcoming posts, i will post more pics of my hair, post the products i use, and give an update on the status of my hair. This blog will not only focus on hair, but various aspects of society.
